The Lower Town Live: THE SHIPYARD

We’ve just experienced the second concert of the Lower Town Live series. The Shipyard – an alternative band from Gdynia performed on 19 July in the Laznia CCA’s courtyard. The group sounded astonishingly amongst the old houses of the district. The concert enticed the faithful fans of the group as well as random passers-by and Laznia CCA’s neighbours. The splendid atmosphere continued also after the show – when the audience and organisers of the event started playing badminton and football together in the yard.

The concert by The Shipyard was yet another step towards creating the places aimed at stimulating encounters of the local community, citizens of Gdansk and guests visiting the city in the summer season in the area of The Lower Town. With this project we aim is to break the barriers and to introduce the distrct as a friendly, attractive place with multiple cultural events to offer. We are making this space alive with live music in the summer season.

THE SHIPYARD is an ensemble of talented alternative musicians that have collaborated with numerous Polish bands over the years. All of them are fascinated with the Gdansk Shipyard – hence the name. “We Will Sea” – band’s debut album received very good reviews and put the band on a position of one of the most exciting new Polish bands. The Shipyard moves between classic cold wave alienation, a reverberating melancholy reminiscent of shoegaze, and heavier alt rock. They played numerous hyper energetic gigs in clubs and festivals (Off Festival 2012 in Katowice and more). Within the LOWER TOWN LIVE they will play an acoustic concert.
